Aliens and Car Chases
By Roger Wallock

Crunching Dr. Peppered popcorn under your feet
the silver screen breathes advertisements
while patrons choose their ideal seats.

Previews play as the lights dim
anticipation seeps into soda and snacks.
The projector’s illumination reveals
a window to another world.
cares forgotten as feet rest illegally
on the backs of chairs.

A whirlwind of
swords and time machines,
aliens and car chases.

Junk food shoved into our mouths while
romance and betrayal,
courage and depression
replace our own real feelings.

Jettisoned to alter dimensions
and swept away by heroics.
We scream at the screen at
villains and criminals
angered at
injustice and deception.

Our vision is tunneled towards the glow
all else disappears into nothing.
We become what we are viewing!
we soar through the clouds
we conquer the enemy
we rescue the princess
and we fall in love
all in the comfort of
a padded,
fold down,
pop stained
throne.
